I guess I’m looking for a software solution to not having to physically remove the slice…. It is unmounted right now, but the iMac still tries to access it. It’s not the end of the world, but I hope there’s a way to completely disable the SSD slice, so the iMac doesn’t try to access it in any way. If not, I hit the power button and restart the Mac and it starts up quickly… Almost every time I power up the iMac, it ‘’does something with’’ the SSD slice…which results in the white on black progress line that takes about 5 minutes until it gives up and boots off the new SSD….After that, the iMac works perfectly. The 128GB SSD slice in my iMac late 2015 started acting up intermittently and I opened the iMac up, decided to replace the HDD with a big SSD, thinking I will just install my OS on this new one and never use the SSD slice ever again (since it’s a real pain to open the iMac and get to the SSD slice on the other side of the MB)…I un-fused the drives, replaced the HDD with the bigger SSD…it works.
